APECS Accredited Master Executive Coach, FRSA
One of the best things to happen to me was to discover coaching – in the USA. It was then in its formative years, but I knew this was the way forward for leadership development. I decided to clock up a lot more business experience before setting up our current practice. At its heart, business coaching is straightforward: a confidential, trusting and focussed dialogue that helps and challenges a person to make changes, within an organisational context. My approach is to draw on a range of tools and techniques and apply them selectively to each individual situation. This approach has evolved through formal training, supervision and much reflection – as well as 1000s of hours of coaching senior people.
I have coached in the private, public and not for profit sectors in the UK and internationally, working with CEOs, directors and senior executives. I am supervised externally, accredited by the Association for Professional Executive Coaching & Supervision, and a member of the European Mentoring and Coaching Council, and follow their respective codes of ethics.
Having worked at director level in large and complicated businesses (and co-authored a business history),I know only too well the gap between theory and practice, and the very real paradoxes people now face at the top of their organisations. Clients tell me that I am “an excellent listener; empathetic; quick to get to the heart of an issue”. Without being intrusive, I try to ensure that every session has an underlying structure and outputs, so that the individual and organisation make measurable gains. In our spare time, my wife and I love travelling and the great outdoors!
